| Laboratory services are provided for a wide range of diagnostic tests that may be ordered by your physician. The lab at BMC is open 8 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, with the exception of holidays.
A new chemistry analyzer system has recently been installed, which can perform more than 70 different tests, including both routine and urgent testing. Results will be communicated to your physician the same day. The staff at BMC have more than 25 years of laboratory experience, and bring to their work significant education and training, including American Medical Technologist (AMT) and American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certifications and college degrees. The lab itself has received its Clinical Laboratory Improvements Amendments (CLIA) accreditation for another two years. The laboratory performs tests for hospital inpatients and supports the hospital's Emergency Department. Outpatient testing is also provided for home health nursing services, medical clinics, consultants, nursing homes, and out of town physicians. Outpatients may register for tests at the admissions office without an appointment, though a written or faxed physician's order is required. Opened in 1998 to serve physicians in the Bastrop area, the BMC facility is under the supervision of the Smithville Regional Hospital laboratory service. The BMC lab performs testing for the Silver Pines Geriatric Center, as well as supporting drug screening collections for more than 50 companies in the area. The BMC lab is also a collection station for patients whose insurance company requires the use of LabOne or LabCorp testing services. |
